5 Tips to avoid starvation on Karwa Chauth

Karwachauth is one of the most beautiful Hindu festivals, and it displays both the divine and romantic aspects that man shares with women. 'Karva' means to collect or gather, while 'Chautha' denotes the fourth day. According to religious beliefs, Karwachauth is performed by married women seeking prosperity, happiness and welfare for their husbands who represent God as per Hindu beliefs. KarwaChauth is a one day festival for married Hindu women. During Karwachauth, married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. But how do you manage all this without your stomach grumbling? Well, here are some tips.

Drink lots of water

Water helps you keep hydrated and makes you complete so that you feel less hungry during dinner time. Keep a check on fluids before starting for Karva Chauth. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and night before starting for Karva Chauth. Dehydration causes weakness, lethargy and hunger pangs. So keep yourself hydrated throughout the day before your fast starts.

Eat fruits at night after eating light food for lunch and dinner

Fruits provide sugar levels in the bloodstream, which reduces more than normal levels during the daytime because of less intake of food items. Hence, it is essential not to consume fruits on an empty stomach or cause more harm than good. Fruits like pineapple, apple, oranges, pomegranate etc., give energy and get digested easily. Make sure to eat them before your dinner for better results. Nuts are your friend. Since they're rich in proteins, they'll not only fulfil your hunger but will also give you the satisfaction of eating something.

Also, Take black pepper powder with fruit juice in the morning. Black pepper has thermogenic properties that pace up the digestion process by heating the food items. Moreover, it also helps in increasing our body metabolism rate, where fats are burnt out faster. It is recommended to have a glass of juice mixed with one pinch of black pepper powder.

Take care of your electrolytes

As you would be eating only once in the day, you need to ensure that your electrolytes are balanced. Also, stay calm. While fasting or keeping up any diet, you must remain calm. If you get angry or upset, it could affect your health and make this one day even more difficult. Also, drink 2-3 cups of green tea throughout the day. It helps combat hunger pangs and keeps you hydrated at the same time. It also contains a good amount of caffeine, which boosts metabolism.

Take saffron

Saffron has medicinal properties. It acts as a mild laxative agent and improves bowel movement by reducing constipation tendencies. Moreover, it rejuvenates our body cells and provides stamina for every day.

Avoid excessive salt intake

Too much salt during karwa Chauth fast can lead to dizziness, nausea or vomiting. Hence intake of salt at the end of your fast should be minimal, such that it does not react adversely to your body.

Conclusion

Karvachauth is a festival that brings happiness and joy to every married woman. It is the only fast that a married woman observes for her husband's long life and prosperity. This festival allows expressing your love and gratitude towards your partner. Though fasting during Karwachauth might seem challenging, it can be managed if some precautions are taken.
