5 things to avoid during Dhanteras

Dhanteras is a day dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity. Dhanteras is also popularly known as "Dhanatrayodashi", "Dhanvantari Triodasi", or "Dhanwantari Triyodashi". According to the lunisolar Hindu calendar, it is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Ashwin. This festival comes just before the Deepavali celebrations, beginning at the end of October or mid-November. The name Dhanteras derives from two words, dhana meaning "wealth" and teras meaning "thirteenth ''.On this auspicious occasion, people buy new things like utensils, jewellery, household goods etc., as it is said that one should start all new ventures on this day. While Dhanteras is one of the most auspicious occasions in the life of a Hindu, some essential things should be kept in mind while celebrating this festival.

Don't wear black clothes

It is believed that wearing black colour clothes brings bad luck during dhanteras puja. So avoid wearing it as much as possible, especially if you plan for a dhanteras puja at home or buying dhanteras gifts. The choice of the correct colour will help you bring peace to your life.

Don't smear ashes on your forehead

It brings bad luck, so avoid smearing ashes on your forehead. It makes you look like a ghost or someone who has died! Hence, if not possible, it's better to avoid doing this during Dhanteras Puja.

Don't sweep the floor with your left foot forward

Do not start anything new in life before dhanteras puja. Left is related to lord shiva, and right is associated with Lord Vishnu hence do not disrespect both deities by choosing the wrong side while starting something new. Always keep the right leg forward while completing any further work/ beginning something new.

Don't make any noise

During Diwali night, many crackers make a lot of noise, but it's strictly forbidden to make noise during Dhanteras day. It's said that making loud noises during this particular time brings negative energy, evil spirits and creates lousy health issues for you during the year. Hence try avoiding loud noises on this day.

Avoid old clothes

One more thing you should never do during this particular time of the year is wear old clothes. It's said that wearing clothes used for several years brings terrible luck during the celebrations. So try to wear new clothes which are bright in colour on Dhanteras.
